Essential Job Function/ Skills/ Responsibilities:

The Radiation Safety Technician is responsible for ensuring workplace radiation safety in a manufacturing/production environment.  The position will ensure compliance with company, local, state, and federal radiation safety policies and regulations.  Monitors radiological work activities and implements controls. 

  • Provide job coverage and radiological monitoring for manufacturing operations and maintenance activities to keep exposure to ALARA

  • Develop Radiological Work Permits (RWPs) and conduct pre/post job briefings

  • Conduct contamination and dose rate surveys

  • Set up barriers and posting to identify radiological hazards

  • Collect smear and air samples and performs analysis

  • Maintain performance tests and operates radiological monitoring equipment

  • Calibrates radiological equipment

  • Input data into the DOSISERV system database

  • Generate survey records, reports and facilitates record archival

  • Identify and respond to unplanned conditions

  • Conduct radiological safety walk-downs and pre-job walk-downs

  • Stops/suspends work of unsafe conditions potentially affecting personnel or environmental risk

  • Provide worker feedback and guidance with regard to real or perceived radiological safety issues

  • Ensures the radiological control program complies with local and state regulations

  • Interacts with management on policies, practices, and procedures to ensure the safety of site personnel

  • Communicate effectively both written and verbally with peers, supervisors, and management

Minimum Required Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED

  • A minimum of 1 year of experience as a radiation safety technician or technical schooling equivalent

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to learn the principles and practices of radiation safety compliance

  • Ability to learn the use of radiation monitoring instrumentation and methods

  • Strong computer skills with software applications such as MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

Preferred Education & Experience:

  • Technical Schooling in Radiation Protection, Health Physics, Environmental, or Engineering

  • Or 1-year experience in Radiation Protection

  1. Proficient in working independently and as a team

  2. Ability to work with line management and workforce to provide solutions to solve problems

  3. Effective written and verbal communication

Hours and Duration of Employment:

  • Hours are Monday – Thursday 6 AM – 4:30 PM  (40 hours per week)

  • Regular Full-Time position
